PNC Music Pavilion Charlotte NC

PNC Music Pavilion is located in the University area in Charlotte near the I-85 and I-485 interchange. The venue originally opened on July 4, 1991 as Blockbuster Pavilion. In 2001 it became Verizon Wireless Amphitheater and the name didn’t change again until 2013 when a multi-year agreement between Live Nation and PNC Bank was made, changing the name to the current PNC Music Pavilion. The venue is owned and operated by Live Nation Entertainment which has numerous amphitheaters across the county.

The venue is a very popular stop for summer tours and it brings in lots of big names in the music industry every year. In 1993 the pavilion gained notoriety when FOX network nationally broadcast Paul McCartney’s final North American concert of “The New World Tour”. The venue has also hosted many music festivals with Lollapalooza and Ozzfest being among the list of past festivals.

The PNC Music Pavilion is the largest outdoor amphitheater in Charlotte and is one of the primary venues for big music and entertainment performances. The venue has a seating capacity of around 19,000. There are approximately 7,000 reserved seats under the pavilion, 2,000 uncovered reserved seats and 10,000 lawn seats. Two large screens project the performances so everyone in the venue can be engaged with the musicians on stage. If you have lawn seats you can bring your own low profile chair or you can rent one for $5 at the amphitheater. If you plan to rent a chair just keep in mind there are a limited number of chairs available. All shows go on rain or shine and you can’t take an umbrella into the venue. You can’t get a refund because of rain, so if there’s a chance of rain in the forecast you should prepare yourself by wearing a waterproof jacket or bringing a rain poncho unless, of course, your seats are under the pavilion.

Parking lots are located adjacent to the venue and the price of parking is included in the ticket price for your convenience. If you prefer to upgrade your parking, Premier Parking is available for an additional $25. You can purchase Premier Parking in advance or the day of the show, subject to availability. Limo/RV Parking is also available. The cost is $50 and can be purchased at the parking entrance the day of the show. If you are planning to drive, allow plenty of time to get in and out of the parking lots. CATS (Charlotte Area Transit System) buses also run close to the venue.

There are plenty of restaurants in the University area so you can plan to grab dinner before attending an event if you wish to do so. There are lots of hotels in the area as well. So if you are coming into town for a show you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a hotel close to the venue.

Relax, sit back and enjoy the show at the PNC Music Pavilion. This is a great place to see your favorite artist.
