BB&T Ballpark is the home of the Charlotte Knights, the minor league triple-A baseball team of the Chicago White Sox. The stadium is located one block from Bank of America Stadium (the Carolina Panthers home field) in the heart of Charlotte’s uptown Third Ward community. The Charlotte City Council and Mecklenburg County Commission approved a land-swap deal in 2011 that led to the building of the stadium bringing the Knights back into the city. They had been playing their home games at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, SC just outside of Charlotte. The city believed that attendance would increase if the team played in uptown vs outside of the city. That assumption was correct as the team won the minor league attendance title for the first three seasons at the new ballpark. The stadium opened in time for the 2014 season. It has a capacity of 10,000 and with the Charlotte skyline behind the outfield it is a great place to watch a game. It also has 22 luxury, private suites with everything you need such as refrigerators, air conditioning, flat-screen televisions and access to a private suite entrance to name a few.

Even though the ballpark is not very old, it went through some renovations after the third season. The facility underwent $400,000 in renovations which included a new audio system, new covered areas in left and right field and improvements to the kids’ area. The shade covering in left field increases the number of people who can watch the game in the shade by 150. The covering in right field is for the area that is used for an open party area where people gather to socialize. All this was done to enhance the fan experience at the ballpark. The Knights are considering other options for development around the ballpark as well.

The city of Charlotte is a beautiful city and sitting in the ballpark looking out at the city’s skyline just makes it that much better. You won’t regret visiting this ballpark.
